MT Takes Title at Wayne Tournament

The Mormon Trail Saints volleyball team was in action on Saturday, October 10 at the Wayne Tournament. They opened the day against Seymour. MT survived in two close games by scores of 21-17 and 21-19. Next up, MT challenged the host, Wayne Falcons. MT escaped a tight set in game one, winning 21-19 before coasting in game two, 21-8. This win advanced the Saints to the Final Four of the tournament, where they drew a match against Southeast-Warren. MT dumped the Warhawks by scores of 25-20 and 25-17. The championship game was a rematch with Seymour. Mormon Trail fought and clawed for a victory, winning the games 28-26 and 25-20. The Saints finished the tournament a perfect 8-0 in games.

Pink Out!

MT Volleyball: Senior Night/Dig Pink Night a Success

Mormon Trail volleyball was back in action as they hosted Diagonal on Tuesday night, October 6.

The Saints dumped the visiting Maroonettes by scores of 25-22, 25-15, and 25-22. This was also Senior

Night and the Second Annual Dig Pink Night. Six seniors played their final home game of their Volleyball

careers in front of a raucous crowd dressed in pink. Seniors recognized were Jordan Gehlhaar,

Stephanie Glenn, Bre Rhodes, Samantha Watsabaugh, Holly Wetterling, and Cheyenne Williams.

Katelynn Dent tallied 9 kills, while Seniors Watsabaugh and Williams chipped in with 6 and 5 kills

to lead the offense. Wetterling hit a 1.000 clip and Jordyn Wilson hit a respectable .500 for the match.

Breanna Glenn set for 23 assists, and her sister, Stephanie, a senior, added 2 assists. Gracie Hitt led the

defense with 9 digs, Dent added 6, and Kaylee Parmer recorded 5. Wilson stuffed 2 Diagonal shots for

blocks. The Saints served up 9 aces, led by Breanna Glenn and Watsabaugh with 4 each.

MT was back in action on Saturday, October 10 at the Wayne Tournament. Stats for that will be

available next week. On Tuesday, October 13 the BGC tournament gets underway. MT will travel to

Seymour to play in a triangular match against Seymour and Ankeny Christian Academy. First serve is

slated for 5:30. The winner of that pool will advance to the BGC Final Four at Murray on Thursday,

October 15 at 5:30. Looking ahead, Seymour will host their tournament on Saturday, October 17 with

MT participating.

MT’s record now stands at 9-6 overall. The Saints finished at 4-2 in the BGC Western Division,

Melcher-Dallas Tournament Champions

After opening the 2015 Volleyball season by going 0-3, the Mormon Trail Saints captured first place in the Melcher-Dallas Tournament on Saturday, September 12. Mormon Trail began the season traveling to Melcher and fell to them 0-3 in games. Later on that week, MT hosted Lamoni. The visiting Demons were able to take the win, dropping the Saints 3 games to 0. Next up, was a Tuesday night match-up with BGC power Murray. The Murray Mustangs took care of MT 3 games to 0 also. Ankeny Christian Academy came to Humeston on Thursday night. The Eagles easily took the first match 25-12. The Saints came back to right the ship in game 2 winning 25-16, coasted in game 3 25-19, and after jumping out to a big lead, fought off ACA and won the match 25-23. Against the Eagles, Gracie Hitt smashed a career high 21 kills. Kaitlyn Dent added 13 kills. The Lady Saints defense held tight as Hitt recorded 15 digs, Dent had 14, so did Cheyenne Williams, and Kaylee Parmer had 13. Breanna Glenn had a solid night running the offense, as she contributed 39 assists. Samantha Watsabaugh totaled 2 blocks. Glenn also served up 4 aces on the night, while Watsabaugh had 3. Mormon Trail was back in action on Saturday, September 12 as they traveled to Melcher for a four team tournament. MT faced Martensdale-St. Marys first. The Saints were victorious, winning by scores of 21-16 and 21-11. Hitt and Williams had high attacking honors, as each netted 7 kills. Watsabaugh and Dent weren’t far behind as they each owned 5 kills for the match. Glenn dished out 18 assists, Williams had 2 blocks, and Glenn and Watsabaugh totaled 3 aces each. Hitt hauled in 11 digs, while Dent recorded 7, and Parmer tallied 6. The Saints faced Melcher-Dallas after a two game break. MT came out dominating and won by scores of 21-15 and 21-7, gaining revenge against MD. The offense was evenly matched as Dent, Williams, and Watsabaugh each totaled 5 kills. Glenn added 13 assists. Bre Rhodes and Hitt recorded 9 digs each. Dent and Williams added 8 each also. Watsabaugh served up 4 aces, while Hitt ended the match with 3. Next up for the tournament was Seymour. Seymour had dropped their first match of the season earlier in the day. MT fought back from being down 16-20 to stun Seymour in the first game winning 22-20. The second game was all Saints, as they coasted to a 21-11 victory. The offense was very balanced. Dent and Hitt each posted 5 kills, with Watsabaugh and Williams receiving 4 kills each respectively. Glenn again set up the offense with 13 assists. Hitt led the defensive stance with 12 digs, Parmer added 8, and Rhodes collected 7. Williams again controlled the blocks, as she totaled 2 in the match. Glenn knocked down 5 aces in the victory also. With the win, MT finished the tournament 3-0 in matches and a perfect 6-0 in games. The Saints record now stands at 4-3 in matches and 9-10 overall in games. MT travels to Diagonal on Monday, September 14 and hosts rival Iowa Christian on Tuesday, September 15. On Tuesday, September 22, the Saints travel to Des Moines for a triangular match with Grandview Christian and Iowa Christian (varsity only).

Mormon Trail Saints volleyball has upped their winning streak to six games after two Bluegrass Conference Match wins. MT traveled to Diagonal for a conference tilt. The visiting Saints won by scores of 24-26, 25-13, 25-11, and 25-21. Gracie Hitt continued her strong play on offense as she led the charge with 12 kills. Katelyn Dent was close behind with 10 kills. Jordyn Wilson recorded the best hitting percentage as she hit a .333 clip. Breanna Glenn ran the offense with 30 assists. Kaylee Parmer, Dent, and Cheyenne Williams led the team in digs with 3 each. Hitt had 5 aces from the serving line and Samantha Watsabaugh tallied 4 aces. Wilson was a perfect 20 for 20 on serves. The Saints returned to action the next night to face Iowa Christian. After losing the first game 23-25, MT bounced back to record the victory. MT won by scores of 25-21, 25-22, and a 25-9 walloping. The offense carried the team as three players reached double figures in kills, and one more narrowly missed. Dent hit a career high of 18 kills, Williams added a season high with 12 kills, and Hitt totaled 10. Watsabaugh was close behind with 9 kills. She also had high hitting honors, recording a .368 efficiency. Glenn dished out 42 assists in the win. Hitt added 19 digs, Dent had 14, and Parmer owned 12. Wilson blocked 4 shots on defense. Williams and Wilson both served perfect on the night with 13/13 and 9/9 respectively. Dent and Watsabaugh both served up 5 aces each. The Saints record now stands at 6-3, and 3-2 in the BGC. Next up for the Saints is a triangular meet with Grandview Christian and Iowa Christian at Ankeny on Tuesday, September 22 at 5:30. That match will be held at Ankeny Faith Baptist Bible College. MT will play Grandview first and then play Iowa Christian. The following week, MT will host Murray and Twin Cedars in action on September 29 at 5:30. That night MT will play TC first, then Murray and TC will play, and finally MT will match-up against Murray. Thursday, October 1 MT will travel to Orient for JV/Varsity action, which begins at 5:30.
