February Board Minutes

MORMON TRAIL COMMUNITY SCHOOL DISTRICT

REGULAR MEETING

February 13, 2017

President Smiarowski called the regular meeting of the Mormon Trail Board of Directors to order at 7:42 p.m. in the Humeston Elementary Library.  Answering roll call were board members Evans, Lundahl, Funk, Peasley and Smiarowski.  Principals Hunt and Stripe and Board Secretary Peggy Rash were also present. Superintendent Lorna Paxson was absent.

Lundahl made a motion to approve the agenda. Peasley seconded the motion to approve with all present voting aye. Motion carried.

Peasley ask Secretary Rash to make a grammar correction to the January minutes. Lundahl moved to approve the consent agenda which included the correction to the previous meeting’s minutes and two open enrollment applications into the District requests for school year 2017-18  and one open enrollment request out of the District for 2016-17 that met filing requirements. Peasley seconded. Motion carries with all ayes.

After reviewing the month’s financial reports, Evans made a motion to approve. Funk seconded with all present voting aye. 

Following a brief discussion, Lundahl motioned to approve the February bills for payment. The Board wished to hold payment to SCI for repairs to the security camera system pending further explanation for the charges. Peasley seconded with all present voting aye.

Item #3 under action items was not acted upon.

Item #4 review and update, as necessary, Board policy code series 400 was tabled pending recommendations by Superintendent Paxson.

Item #5 which included the selection of the audit team who will conduct the yearly audit for fiscal year 2016-17 was tabled. Evans made the motion with Lundahl seconding. All members present voted aye to revisit this again in March.

Lundahl made a motion to accept the resignation of Junior High Girls and Boys Track coach, Mike Snyder for the 2017 spring season. Funk seconded with all present voting aye.

Funk made a motion to approve Skyla Pierson as a part-time para-educator at $7.25/hr, Delavan Mastin as evening custodian, working approximately 25 hours per week at $8.00/hr and to hire Elizabeth Vanderflught as Junior High Boys/Girls coach for spring 2016-17 at a salary of $1450/season. Evans seconded. All present voted aye.

Robert Thatcher will continue as summer varsity baseball coach receiving $2900 for the season. Summer varsity softball will be coached by Josh Stiles ($2900) assisted by Cassie Moore. ($1200/season). Thatcher will coach High School Boys and Girls track ($2600) with Vanderflught assisting. ($1200/season). Steve Hunt will coach High School Girls and Boys golf this spring at a salary of $2050 for the season. Lundahl made the motion to approve these spring/summer coaches with Peasley seconding. All present voted aye. All coaching salaries are set as a part of negotiations in schedule B of the Master contract.

Administrative reports were given by Principals Becky Stripe and Steve Hunt. Superintendent Paxson was not present at the meeting.

Lundahl motioned that the meeting be adjourned. Funk seconded with all voting in favor of adjournment.  Smiarowski closed the meeting at 8:55 p.m.

The next regularly scheduled meeting of the Mormon Trail Board of Directors will be held Mach 13th 2017 @ 7:30 p.m. in the Elementary Library.
