Special Meeting
July 31, 2017
The Mormon Trail School Board met in special session July 31, 2017 at the Humeston Elementary Library. President Smiarowski called the meeting to order at 6:07 p.m. Peasley, Lundahl Funk and Smiarowski answered roll call. Evans entered the meeting at 6:20. Secretary Rash was also present. Guests were Kerry Phillips, Dan Smith, and Joe Kite from Harmony CSD. Lundahl made a motion to approve the agenda with Peasley seconding. Funk, Peasley, Lundahl and Smiarowski voted aye. Evans had not entered the meeting at the time of the vote. Motion carries. There were no action items at this point in the agenda. Kerry Phillips, Superintendent candidate, ask the Board to go into closed session. Peasley motioned to enter closed session pursuant to IOWA CODE 21.5 (l) (i) To Evaluate the Professional Competency of an Individual with Funk seconding. A roll call vote was taken. Peasley yes; Lundahl yes; Funk yes; and Smiarowski yes. Evans had not entered the meeting at the time of the vote. Motion carries. The Board entered closed session at 6:10. The Board returned to open session at 7:18 pm. Lundahl motioned to approve the hiring of Kerry Phillips as a shared Superintendent with Harmony CSD pending approval by the Harmony School Board and subject to the final financial terms and transportation agreement decided on by the Harmony School Board. Funk seconded with all voting aye. Peasley made a motion to adjourn with Evans seconding. All voted aye. Smiarowski closed the meeting at 7:20 p.m.
